A Pep Talk Goes a Long Way
Nobody (at least, not anyone I’ve met) has a cheer squad behind them, always whooping and hollering when they make a good move.
All we’ve got is ourselves.
But that’s not the worst thing in the world!
Having your own cheer squad would probably get annoying after a while.
Got out of bed? YAY!
Pulled into your work’s parking lot on time despite all odds? YAY!
You narrowly avoided spilling coffee? YAY!
Didn’t send a passive-aggressive email to that co-worker who insists on microwaving fish for lunch right beside your office? TRIPLE YAY!
There is a lot to celebrate in daily life, but if you make a big deal out of everything, your actual victories might not be given the attention they deserve.
Then the important milestones we should be paying attention to get lost in a sea of verbal participation ribbons.
That’s why it’s a good thing that we don’t have personal cheer squads.
Yes, everyone needs a good pep talk now and then – a little bit of positive reinforcement that you’re making the right choice can go a very long way.
What’s even more valuable is someone who’s in your corner to cheer when you need it, but gives you sage advice and keeps you accountable, too!
I’d like to think we fit the bill!
